• Nominations come from ES personnel across the nation
• A panel of judges, from the industry, will evaluate the nominations and choose the semi-finalists
• Semi-Finalists will appear in a 13 week, half hour television series from July
• The public will vote for the winner
• The winner will receive prizes, get nationwide recognition and be voted the Centrum® Guardian of the Year 2012

2011 prizes for the finalists:

The winner of the 2011 project, Deon van Wyk, Eden District Municipality received
R60 164 which the station used to buy beds, a TV, lounge suite, rescue craft etc.  The prize money was made up of:

• R30 000 from Centrum®
• R20 000 from Enkosi Agency
• R5 000 from Pack ‘n Stack
• R5 165 from Centrum® who donated R1 for every unique vote for Passion (Deon)
• Deon received R5 000 in his individual capacity as winner

From the R1 donations, the four finalists shared a total of R19 064 plus R2000 per finalist for the individual and or team members to share.

Each finalist of the 90 finalists in 2011 received:-

• A Centrum® Guardian Project backpack containing 6 months’ supply of Centrum® and various other goodies as well as a windbreaker sponsored by Enkosi Agency

Training Prizes:

• 16 finalists attended a five-day Fire Prevention and Safety Strategies course by the Fire Protection Association
• Sasol Shared Services invited all the Gauteng finalists to attend a basic Petrochemical Fire Fighting course at the plant in Secunda
• Rural Metro sponsored a 5-day High Angle Rescue training course at their training centre in Greytown for one finalist
• Each finalist was hosted by Eskom to a power station site visit that included presentations and a walk through of the power plant
• The ER24 Training Academy sponsored 20 finalists to attend a 2 day refresher course
